Global Health Studies Assistant Professor Carly Nichols Receives Funding for Food Systems Research

Dr. Carly Nichols, Assistant Professor in Global Health Studies, has received funding through the Interdisciplinary, Scalable Solutions for a Sustainable Future Project for the 2020-21 academic year for research on sustainable food systems and COVID-19. ISSSF grants provide seed funding for the development of major external grant proposals in the environmental and sustainability sciences. The project is supported by the Office of the Provost, Provost Investment Fund and administered by the Office of Sustainability and the Environment.

Professor Alberto Ortiz Díaz named 2020-21 Ford Foundation Postdoctoral Fellow

Alberto Ortiz Díaz, assistant professor of history and global health studies at the University of Iowa, has been named a 2020-21 Ford Foundation Postdoctoral Fellow. He is spending the academic year at the University of Puerto Rico-Río Piedras’ Institute of Caribbean Studies, researching and writing a book about incarceration in the modern Caribbean.

Professor Alberto Ortiz Díaz has been named a 2020-21 Ford Foundation Postdoctoral Fellow. He will be based at the University of Puerto Rico-Río Piedras' Institute of Caribbean Studies working on his book manuscript, Raising the Living Dead: Rehabilitative Corrections in Puerto Rico and the Caribbean, along with a few other projects.

Global Health Studies Alum Lucas Fagre Receives Fulbright to Bulgaria and Romania

Lucas Fagre, who received a BS in global health and a BA in anthropology from the University of Iowa in May 2019, is the winner of a Fulbright Study/Research grant in public health to Bulgaria and Romania for 2020-21.
