Christine Brunner Luse, M.P.A., B.S.N., R.N.

Adjunct Instructor, Global Health Studies
Biography

Ms. Brunner Luse received an M.P.A. in Public Administration and a B.S.N. in Nursing from Northern Illinois University. She is currently an Adjunct Instructor in the Global Health Studies Program.

Her global health interests include the intersection of politics and health on a micro and macro level, technology and innovation as a tool for reaching the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and "storytelling" as a method of promoting global health programs, goals, education, and policy. During the pandemic she has been investigating the potential risks and benefits of what she calls "new world-global health." Following the example of the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs priority programs, "Space 4 SDGs" and "Space for Health," she believes that technology is changing so quickly that we need to look forward, now, to when space travel and living off-Earth will be common rather than fictional.

As a management consultant and public health professional, Ms. Brunner Luse has worked with a variety of organizations such as the March of Dimes Iowa Chapter Public Affairs Committee, Ryan White Care Act (AIDS) Title I Grant Application Review Panel, and the Illinois McHenry County Domestic Violence Advisory Council. As a veteran educator, she has developed both semester-length and weekend conference courses on a range of topics which are popular not only with Global Health Studies students but with other majors such as engineering, finance and journalism as well.

At U Iowa she teaches courses on global health promotion, technology to improve global health, and working in global health.  GHS:4002 Working in Global Health was designed to give students entering the global health workforce a background on the issues, techniques, politics and logistics they may encounter in their work. Her favorite comment from students includes "That's a global health job? I didn't know!"
