Chat from the Old Cap: Human Rights Prosecution

Pragna Soni (97JD) serves as a deputy chief for the department’s Human Rights and Special Prosecutions section. She supervises the investigation and prosecution of violent crimes that happen outside of the United States, where the U.S. has jurisdiction. She’s served in several other roles inside the Department of Justice including as a trial attorney and general counsel and has worked as an attorney for two private firms in the Washington D.C. area.

During her time at Iowa Law, Soni was a founding member and worked as the technical editor of the Journal of Gender, Race, and Justice. She graduated with distinction in 1997.

Join Soni as she talks about her work at the Department of Justice and explains how the University of Iowa College of Law helped prepare her for a career at the Department of Justice.

Chat from the Old Cap is a series of virtual engagement sessions featuring Iowa alumni and friends sharing stories from their careers, backgrounds, and the university that unites us.
